The travel card for 300th anniversary of Ekaterinburg

Travel card design
In 2023, the city of Ekaterinburg celebrates its 300th anniversary. It is traditional to give various gifts to the city on this date. I decided to develop a new design for the city's travel card.
Ekaterinburg is renowned for its constructivist buildings, yet the city boasts a wealth of wooden architecture constructed in diverse styles. Unfortunately, due to their material composition, these wooden structures are highly susceptible to the elements and fire, causing them to gradually vanish from the cityscape. This is precisely why I selected them to feature on the travel card — to draw attention to and commemorate these vulnerable yet culturally significant structures that are fading from Ekaterinburg's map.
I chose a few of the most prominent buildings and a few buildings that had already been destroyed and created illustrations with them.
The inclusion of wooden houses on the travel card serves a dual purpose. Not only does it grab the attention of citizens, shedding light on the pressing issue of preserving the city's historical architecture, but it also provides an opportunity for residents to deepen their understanding of the city they call home. Each travel card will feature concise information about the highlighted house, offering a chance for locals to connect with and appreciate the rich history woven into the fabric of their city.
This is what the travel card will look like
I opted for a vertical arrangement of the illustrations to align with the practical purpose of the card. This choice not only diverges from the conventional horizontal layout but also adds a touch of style, enhancing the card's distinctiveness and recognizability.
Citizens will also be able to view cards with information about each house, which
will be posted on the city carrier's website.
Ekaterinburg boasts a 300-year history, yet remarkably few historical buildings have endured the test of time. For its birthday, the city deserves a gift that not only preserves its rich history but also offers citizens a fresh perspective on their hometown.
